The abandoned Byzantine castle city of Mystras is perched on the slopes of Taygetos, 5 km from the city of Sparta, overlooking the Evrotas River. At the time of its prosperity, it was the spiritual and cultural center of the region and gathered sages, artists and scholars. Here, in 1400 AD George Plethon or Gemistos founded his famous philosophical school. Despite the centuries, the castles, the Palace of Despots, the houses of the lords and the inhabitants, monasteries and churches are here to offer you a journey in history!
